Test Gliding
Before trying to fly the model plane, be sure to glide test to find the proper center of gravity. New models always need some adjustments. Install the rubber motor, then gently push the model forward. Usually the model will either dive to the ground or the nose will rise then stop and fall nose down (a stall). If the model has removable wings that can move forward or aft; you would move the wing slightly aft if the model stalled or forward if the model was diving. If the wing is fixed; then weight needs to be added to the front if the model stalled or rear if the model was diving. Use small adjustments or weight additions and continue to glide test until the model flies relatively level. You should also make sure the wing is not twisted (warped) which will cause an unwanted turn in both the glide and power phase.
It is also important to have balanced propeller blades. The heavier blade will rotate on the shaft to the bottom. You can balance the blades by shaving with a razor blade or sand paper the heavier blade or putting pieces of Scotch tape to the rear side of the lighter blade. When balanced the blades should stay horizontal on the prop shaft without one blade rotating to the bottom. Proper adjustments will make a good flying model so keep trying small adjustments until you are happy with the results.
